MOVEMBER FOR AMHT
Recently we were very lucky to receive huge support from the committee of Movember who kindly donated their efforts to AMHT as a trust. Their efforts arranging fundraised sports outings, golf tournament, raffles, a hugely successful gala night, quiz nights and a silent auction, not to mention all the weird and wonderful beards grown and sported for the cause raised us nearly $5000 which came as such a great surprise to all of the team just before Christmas. We are extremely grateful to them.
The generous, energetic and innovative Movember team committed themselves to a host of fundraising events over the month of November such as pub quizes, a gala fancy dress night, raffles, a silent auction, mini-mo runs for schools and a golf tournament. All of this to raise money for AMHT (and the Flying Medical Service) and for that we are eternally grateful. They managed to raise well above $10,000 dollars, and given there are so many worthy causes to chose from, this is a considerable contribution for us. Thank-you again from all of the team – we really appreciate all of your time and effort.
Expansion of Arusha Mental Health Offices
Sponsored by the Arusha Rotary Club in collaboration with the RK Foundation of the Netherlands
In February of 2013, Rotary International allocated funding for the expansion of the offices at AMHT to supplement the contribution of the RK Foundation in the Netherlands. The need for expanded office space reflects the expanded program of AMHT, as a result of the social outreach and training programs instituted in 2010 and 2011
In the past, the office space for three clinicians and two psychiatric nurses was adequate to the needs of patients accessing services at the Mt. Meru Regional
Government Hospital premises where AMHT is located. As the program has expanded, more clinicians trained, and more clients accessing services the space simply was not sufficient.
Through a local philanthropic foundation, The Florentina Foundation, connections were established with the RK Foundation in The Netherlands, and funds secured for expansion. An appeal was made to another local supporter, The Arusha Rotary Club, and additional funds were pledged allowing construction of four additional counseling rooms and added classroom space.
With the support and counsel of the Regional Medical Officer, the Head of Hospital, and the Regional Engineer, construct began late in May 2013. The expected time for construction was 4 months, but yesterday the walls reached nearly to the lintel, and construction is moving much more quickly than expected.
With sincere thanks to all of the many people who have supported AMHT over the years, we are pleased to bring you up to date on our current success and our bright future ahead.
